We are excited to announce the third issue of Afflatus. Aimed to promote and showcase Australian artists, Afflatus is currently after applications for people who would like to be featured.

With a wide array of features, from biographies to interviews to critical analyses, Afflatus not only showcases the artwork, but the artists as well.
We are not just after traditional artists, but all kinds such as clothing designers, models, singers, digital designers, photographers, silver smiths, etc.

This issue’s theme is: Death. If your work, or a series, works with either causes of death, the dead, the afterlife, etc. or inspired by it, then fill out the form (linked below) and apply.

Queer Expo 2018

Last weekend saw the second Queer Expo take place! After having a positive experience at the first one, the Afflatus team were excited to see how the event had changed and grown.

M.A.D Fashion Showcase 2018

May the 5^th saw the third annual Melbourne Alternate Designers (M.A.D) fashion showcase. This year the event had a location change, taking place in the Melbourne Arts Centre. It is amazing to see this event grow and be able to utilize such a famous and beautiful building, and it was now more accessible with more parking and being so close to the CBD and transport.

The runway took place in a separate, but connected, room from the market, and had a unique layout. With a crescent pathway running across the room, and the main stage running at a 90˚ angle, this allowed the audience more chance to see the garments, the models to interact with the audience, and a more traditional catwalk to still be present. The night ran smoothly and on time, something M.A.D has set a standard for and continues to keep.

The market this year appeared to have many more artists. Ranging from those selling prints and pins, to others selling clothing and accessories, this year once again showcased local artists and had something for everyone. My only qualm with the market was, due to the floor’s layout, a bottle neck was created and with so many attendees it was difficult to manoeuvre. But this is something that happens due to the popularity and large attendance, and being in a new space there are bound to be a few hiccups.

Kink Crawl - Melbourne Rubber Men

Yesterday I attended the Rubber Kink crawl.
Organized by the Melbourne Rubber Men, the day saw a lunch at the Yorkshire Hotel, a demonstration at Eagle Leather, a lecture at Piercing HQ, finishing with celebrations and partying at The Laird.

Melbourne Rubber men are a social group of rubber and latex enthusiasts. Often meeting for luncheons or dinners before kink events, the group has also organized several events including their one year birthday party, and yesterday's Kink Crawl.

With us beginning to utilize our blog, we need content to post, and sadly the two team members can’t go out and see all the amazing art out there.
That’s where you can come and help. Do you enjoy writing overviews, reviews, or critical analysis of art you have seen and events you have attended? Then submit them to be posted on the Afflatus blog!

We are after art events/reviews of: movies, music, events, galleries, etc.
We are currently seeking pieces that are 500-2000 words (though this is negotiable).
Images can also be included in the post as long as you have the copyright holder’s permission.

Black Panther - Film Review

Long live the king: Black Panther.

Over the weekend I saw the latest Marvel Cinematic installment, Black Panther. I had been anticipating this film for a long time; my hype growing with each new trailer. But I was wary; worried my excitement meant the film could not live up to my expectations.

This film exceeded them.
